The Importance and Required Need to Log Sterilizer Cycles Record keeping is a critical component

Record keeping is a critical component of any sterilization monitoring protocol. The Centers for Disease Control and Preventing (CDC), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures (OSAP) all require keeping a log to record daily sterilization procedures. A Sterilizer printer or data logger is perfect for keeping records of the log and is a sterilizer printer that will ensure all record-keeping is intact. Record keeping is a legal responsibility for every practice and should be maintained properly. The CDC, joint commissions, AAAHC, OSHA, DPH all require physical monitoring. Ideally, every reprocessed medical device, especially and implant, should be fully traceable to the patient on whom it is used. It should involve recording the sterilizer load identifier on the patient chart. The autoclave printer works by keeping a record of all the logs. Documentation of cycle information and monitoring results should be maintained in a log (electronic or manual) to provide tracking to the individual patient. Each item or pack should be labeled with a lot or load control number to include:

  • Identify the sterilizer load or cycle number

  • Date of processing

  • Sterilizer identification number

  • Expiration date

You need to protect your patients, staff, and yourself by reducing risk liability and protecting your practice. If the sterilizer fails, you should know which instruments to recall and in an efficient manner.
